February 2007

As we settle into this new year, I feel confident that many wonderful things will be done with the money being sent to help the orphans of the world. We plan to continually improve the site and get more and more people involved. This month we have added the Clubshop Mall banner to our home page. Now if people want to shop and have us receive the points, they can.

We have terrific news from Frontlines Missions & Ministries. All money needed has been raised for the children's home Casa Heidi in Campur, Guatemala. They were supposed to have had the plans drawn up by now, and the construction started, but things have been delayed, as working in another country and culture can bring the unexpected. They do hope to have the project completed by the end of summer. At that time, money will be needed for furnishings, appliances, and supplies. Also at that time, they will be stocking the pharmacy with non-prescription needs, baby formula, vitamins, etc. I will keep you informed of the needs and progress there.

As far as Karakol Children's Home, I have an example of the great need there and how much we take for granted. Last month, I told you how excited they were to receive our money and how they immediately ordered 5 more beds. When I heard back about the 10 beds they got, they were so excited because they had thin mattresses. All the other beds are just boards with a blanket! Their hope is now to get mattresses for all the beds. To hear that most of these children are basically sleeping on a raised floor really made me realize just how little they have there, and what a difference your money is making. Therefore, we are sending $400.00 for mattresses. I feel so thankful to all our partners who are making it possible for these children to have the basics of a mattress on their bed.

At Mants'ase Children's Home, we received word that the children had a wonderful Christmas. On the Tuesday before Christmas, the children were brought into town and they were allowed to buy a new outfit to wear on Christmas. We were told it was interesting to see what they bought, as even the six year olds knew exactly what they wanted. After that, they had a picnic of chicken, chips, popcorn and cold drinks, supplied by some of the board members. Then 45 very tired, but happy children went back to the home. They each received a small gift under the tree on Christmas day and each wore their new outfit.

We still have not received any word from Lynetta All Children's Home, so for now I have nothing to tell you. I am also now waiting on some information on an orphanage in Cambodia. If you know of an orphanage that is struggling and needs support, please let me know. Our goal is to help as many orphaned children as possible, and I thank you all for your support.
